Hi there.
I am doing some research at the moment looking at using a lightweight alloy V8 as a possible donor for an engine conversion in a smaller car. I won't nominate what type of car at this stage because its never been done before and I haven't made the decision whether to proceed given all the logistics plus legalities and transport requirements for such a project. I am looking at either a rover alloy motor, probably the 3.9 or the leyland P76 4.4.
I have heard that the P76 can be shortened to some degree by using alternate rover parts on the front such as timing cover etc. Is that so??
And can anyone tell me whether the oil filter can be re positioned although I am not sure whether that will be an issue at this stage.
Many thanks
Mork.
P.S. I remember these cars when they first came out in what 73?? I worked as an apprentice at my fathers garage and saw one just the other day here in Toowoomba. Good to see that we have enthusiasts out there keeping them going. Cheers. |

You can do anything if you have the money. Rover V8 stuff does fit on the front of the P motor but you might need to consider that the water pump capacity is less in the Rover. Another option might be to consider a Craig Davis Electric water pump that will give you a lot more options. Good luck and post some pics of the build. |
